Tarot For Burnout – An Illuminating 5 Card Advice Spread

Hi Musers, it’s Wednesday and I’m not going to lie, I am not doing that well. I am exhausted and emotional and feel in desperate need of a break. I’m sure a lot of you can relate! I feel like I’m teetering on the verge of burnout and as I don’t seem to be able to come tup with any fixes on my own, I did a search on Pinterest for a tarot for burnout spread.

Why I’m Burned Out

I have talked about it in other posts but I’m not going to assume you’ve read them so here’s a recap. I have chronic fatigue so energy is always a big issue for me. I was gradually trying to be a bit healthier this year so I started eating better and actually going to the gym. Then, two weeks ago the crap storm started.

I am convinced my husband has undiagnosed ADD or ASD and possibly dyslexia. He definitely has severe anxiety issues. He goes through cycles of having problems at work and struggles with any criticism. He had a big anxiety attack a couple of weeks ago so he’s been off since. Unfortunately sick pay at his workplace isn’t great so as well as giving him emotional support I’ve also been a little pried about money.

I work a full time job and a part time job. The part time job is great in that I am free to work as many hours as I wish. It means I can partially cover for his lost salary but I’m already exhausted. Working more isn’t good for me right now.

Two weeks ago my aunt’s husband died completely out of nowhere one night. It’s so sad 😢 a few days after he died my grandma (my aunt’s mum) got very sick and was admitted to hospital. I was so worried she might also pass away. Grandma is 91, and while I don’t look forward to losing her I feel like I’ll be able to accept it. However she could not die a few days after Stephen. Claire could not lose her husband and her mother within a week. Happily, shes on the mend but my worry was through the roof for a while.

Lastly, a little over a week ago we got earth-shaking news about my husband’s family. I won’t talk about it here but I am still trying to process it and my husband is in bits.

It has been really shitty and I don’t know how to pull out of my death spiral. That leads me to:

Tarot For Burnout Spread

Whenever I need a spread for a very specific thing I tend to turn to Pinterest as there’s almost always something there. In my experiences the great thing with Pinterest is you don’t need to second guess what to search for. Enter exactly what you are looking for, in my case a tarot for burnout spread, and it will deliver.

As expected in this case, I was not disappointed. I normally prefer to stick to three card spreads as I’m still learning, but this one seemed to offer a good understanding of my issues so I went with a five card spread. I’d love to give credit to the creator but it was a generic page with no cues unfortunately. So, without further ado, here’s the spread:

Tarot for burnout five card spread

The deck I chose to use is Tarot of Sacred Kingdoms designed by Jenn and Flo at Earth Moon Magick. It was the very first kickstarter I ever backed and I love how dark and moody it is.

Here are the cards I drew:

My Interpretation

  1. The High Priestess. The core of my fatigue is that, as usual, I am directing all my energy outward, towards others. What do they want, what do they need, are they ok, can I help in any way? I need to take time to look inward, connect with my own power and my own intuition and my own sense of who I am and what I need to thrive. I need a time of peace and self-exploration. I also need to look into the shadows and see what I need to integrate and what I need heal.
  2. The Fool. I need a fresh start. As much as I’ve gone through hard times lately, I need to connect with my optimism and sense of adventure. I need to move and start to have some fun again. It’s time to get a cloth and wipe away the past as much as possible I need to start with a clean slate.
  3. Four of Swords. Ha! One of the things I love about tarot is that sometimes the answer is blunt with no interpretation needed whatsoever. It’s absolutely perfect for this card to appear in a tarot for burnout spread. Four of swords literally signifies rest, relaxation and restoration. It’s ok to support others but, as the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Even when things are at their worst it’s ok for me to take some time for rest and self care. In fact, more than that it’s essential I take time for self care.
  4. Wheel of Fortune. I take this card to mean acceptance in this particular reading. Seasons change, the wheel turns and all things happen in their own time, their own cycle. I’m a fixer, a doer and so I chafe at any delay as I just want to get it done already! Accepting that that is not always possible will reduce self inflicted stress in my life. Further accepting that change will come and bad times will not stay forever can reduce stress in unavoidable situations.
  5. The Hierophant. I can continue to explore my spirituality and connect with my intuition as it will often help to show me a path through dark times. I may need help from a mentor to continue my development and I should research mentoring programs.

Time To Take The Cards’ Advice

It’s late, I’m tired and I need a good night’s sleep. I hope you enjoyed my tarot for burnout reading and I hope that you are bright-eyed and. Bushy tailed. If not, feel free to take anything that resonates in this spread. As always, if you have any questions, suggestions or alternative interpretations please feel free to pop them in the comments. Take care xx
